Gateway to Arabic Book One teaches the skills needed to read and write vowelized Arabic texts. It assumes no prior knowledge of Arabic. Topics include:

- - The recognition and formulation of letters in their joined forms
- - The three short vowels: fat-ha, kasra and damma
- - The three long vowels (al-madd)
- - Nunation (at-tanween)
- - As-sukoon
- - Ash-shadda
- - The sun and moon letters with the associated rules for reading words defined by ‘al-’ (the).
- - Al-alif al-maqsoora
- - Al-hamza
By the end of the book, the learner should be able to begin reading simple vowelized sentences in Modern Standard Arabic.
